James Delorey--Phi Eta Sigma

Racking up the honors, now a member of BYU's Honor Society...it will look good on the resume.  Chuck and James attending the induction banquet, Thursay, April 2, 2009.

James Delorey--Eagle Scout

Since we had everyone together for Chuck's homecoming, we hurried up and held James' Eagle Court of Honor.  James was honored by Boy Scout Troop 190 in Lake Mills for achieving Scouting's highest rank of achievement.  His project consisted of organizing over 30 people in donating over 150 hours of service, constructing 15 bluebird houses and installing them along a new bluebird trail in Korth Park on Rock Lake in Lake Mills.  The Eastern Bluebird population was dangerously low in the mid 1900's from habitat destruction, nest predation, and pesticide use.  The species has largely recovered as a result of these kinds of projects by a network of birding enthusiasts.  Thankfully, the bluebird is no longer on the endangered species list.

Adding to the occasion for James was the presence of all of his brothers who are also all Eagle Scouts!  High five, guys!!

Lake Mills Ward Youth Conference

This year our small group headed to Nauvoo for two nights.  Safe to say a great time was had by all.  It was hot and steamy but not too buggy.  We did baptisms for the dead, a 3 miles handcart trek, and saw the outdoor Nauvoo Pageant, A Tribute to Joseph Smith.  We visited the restored historical sites in both Nauvoo and Carthage, the jail where Joseph Smith was martyred.  It's just amazing to go back in time that way and appreciate the people and their sacrifices...then think about the worldwide church today and the great blessings that are our because of their good lives.  I think we all came home with more grateful hearts.

Way to Go, James the Graduate!

We finally have our beautiful Wisconsin summer weather back just in time for graduation.  Couldn't have been a more perfect day except for a few more good pictures.  But I hope we captured the excitement and joy!  Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

That Last Day of School Feeling--Walkin' On Sunshine

And don't it feel good?????

Congratulations to all our students on a great year--Dan, Ed, Mark, James, and Lexi!  Hey guys, school's out for summer!

Newspaper clipping about James' scholarhip...we had to take advantage of this last time around to brag on all of yous--

Lake Mills Leader

Thee Letter has arrived and it's true...

James received a BYU Thomas S. Monson Presidential Scholarship!  It is for eight semesters tuition and a half.  They only give out 50 of them each year, 25 guys and 25 girls, and we figure the incoming class is about 7,000 students.  So pretty outstanding and sure helps with the budget this time around.  Thank you, James!  Unfortunately, never having gone through the dorm housing process before, I/we messed up.  No rooms left so he is currently homeless.  He'll have to stuff a pillow case with loose bills next semester for a place upon which to rest his weary (smart) head on those cold winter nights on the street.  "Poor" dude (-;

LMHS Sports Captains

November Junior Rotarians

Junior Rotarians are selected by the high school staff for their leadership.  They attend two luncheon meetings with the local Rotary club during their month and tell about themselves and give their opinions on Rotary projects and local issues, etc.  According to their website:

"Rotary International is the world's first service club organization. Its more than 1.2 million members volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto, Service Above Self. "

In all seriousness, Way to Go, James! We're proud of you!

LMHS Falls Sport Awards

What a fun evening we had last night at the high school honoring athletes and their athleticism!  James' coach Chris Roedl and his brother Nick turned out to be great (& funny) guys.  James came home with two plaques, one for tri-captain--one of three captains, in other words--and he also was awarded the Larry Nelson Award.  Mr. Nelson died a few years ago at a young age of a liver ailment.  He was devoted to the soccer program and players here for many years.  I'm not sure what qualities James exemplified to be chosen to receive this reward but I had many comments about what an honor it is (in the eyes of this community).  So, cool!  On Picasa you can see the awards and check out these videos of Coach Roedl roasting James (he also paid him an awesome compliment, I thought)

and a video of the team performing the electric slide.  You'll have to ask James the story about it but I know it took a couple practices to learn, they dominated the Homecoming dance floor, and, as you'll hear, it won James the soccer skills competition even in a leg brace!

James manages to take care of his uncle responsibilities.  This is a cute picture of James showing Lexi a fun time at the zoo (-:  Very cute sack of potatoes!

J/K...King James and Queen Christine & LMHS Homecoming

It's been quite a week for James with surgery on Tuesday and Homecoming festivities the rest of the week.  A pictoral review beginning yesterday with parade and pep rally through tonight's dinner and dance, for your viewing pleasure.  Sweet baby James doing the Delorey brothers proud.

Prognosis:  Full Recovery

James' day at the UW Hospital began around noon today.  He made friends with about 5 nurses, 1 anesthetist and resident assistant, 1 surgeon and resident assistant, lots of coming and going all day.  They were all fantastic!  The surgeon said he was happy to find the meniscus not "beat up too bad" and he was able to sew it down with 3 arthroscopic(?) stitches.  If James continues to be the model patient and is diligent about his rehabilitation exercises, he should be able to regain 100% function of his knee.  He received a blessing last night to that effect (-:

Historic First for L-Cats with James at the Helm!

James led his team to the first ever L-Cat win of the Lake Mills Soccer Invitational.  Eight teams participated last Saturday.  They all played three games and Lake Mills won all three of their games to go home with the tournament trophy and individual medals.  Ask dad and James about all the great details.  The highlight was the tie-breaking sudden death shoot-out of the third game (the first round of 5 kicks ended in a tie) where James as goalie blocked the opponent's kick, keeping the score tied as his team's first kick completely missed the net )-:  James then came out of the goal to take his shot and scored the winning goal.  Quite the hero!  That explains all the smiles in this team photo taken right after the game.

Who says white men can't jump??

Last First Day

Can you believe it??  The last son heads off to his last first day of public school.  James has a busy and exciting year ahead of him.  Look, he's ready!

James's Senior Pictures

Stefanie and Ed took James's senior pictures yesterday around Lake Mills.  Here are some of the better ones for your viewing pleasure.

James at EFY for his birthday

What a special day in history, especially our family's.  We miss you on your birthday, James, but it's only the best of times at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI!  If only life could be EFY good all the time!!

James shares his birthdate with: 1817 Henry David Thoreau , 1864 George Washington Carver  , 1908 Milton Berle, 1917 Andrew Wyeth , 1937 Bill Cosby, 1943 Christie McVie and 1948 Richard Simmons (-:

On this day in history:  1817 1st flower show held (Dannybrook, County Cork, Ireland), 1862 Congress authorizes Medal of Honor, 1882 1st ocean pier in US completed, Washington, DC, 1914 Babe Ruth makes his baseball debut, pitches for the Red Sox, 1928 1st televised tennis match, 1957 1st President to fly in helicopter-Dwight Eisenhower, 1970 Janis Joplin debuts in Kentucky

And on the very day...1990 Chicago White Sox Melido Perez no-hits the Yankees 8-0 in a rain shortened 6 inning game at Yankee Stadium (7th no-hitter of 1990) Wow!

Here's Proof...

We weren't scraping the bottom of the gene pool by the time James came along (-:

Proof Positive James does more than play video games...

Watch L-Cats Earn First at State!

James and nine others outdid themselves at the State Solo & Ensemble Handbell Choir competition.  Video of the whole performance is coming as soon as I can figure out the upload.  In the meantime, he would like to entertain you with pictures from the new camcorder taken on the way home.  He's the baby, gotta luvim!

(This is the face James makes any time anyone mentions the Minnesota Gophers.)

James Play his 1st Varsity Golf Meet

Saturday morning James took his second ACT at the high school.  While there the golf coach nabbed him to fill one of the two spots open for the golf meet that afternoon.  Evidently, two seniors got caught drinking and disqualified themselves.

Making the most of his opprtunity to shine, James shot a 41 on the first nine and parred the 1st hole on the back nine!

Handbell Choir

James will be participating in the State Solo and Ensemble Music Competition on Sat April 28 with 11 other students on the handbell team.  It's really impressive.  I wish you could see him and I hope to get video.  Competition will be held at US-Whitewater.

James enjoyed his stained glass class with mom in Provo over spring break!

See pictures.  He undertook an original design for his first project which meant downloading an image, creating his own pattern in addition to  all the other steps the rest of the class learned.  He has finished one project and will begin a second as we're half way through the class.  (Mom is still working on finishing up her first.)  His first project...

A motion W, of course (-:
